Our Story

Two divers, a lot of adventures, and a life around the ocean

We met in Australia in 2024. At the time, neither of us knew that meeting each other would eventually lead to starting a diving business together.

We just knew we had a lot in common. We both loved the ocean, traveling, being outdoors, and exploring new places.

Since then, we have traveled together through Thailand, Nepal, Spain, and other parts of the world. We have gone diving, taken long road trips, and even trekked to Everest Base Camp. We are happiest when we are somewhere new, doing something we've never done before.

Diving, though, has been part of both of our lives for much longer.

Camille grew up in Costa Rica, between the jungle and the sea, and started diving when she was 14. She has since dived and worked in different parts of the world, including the Caribbean, Australia, Indonesia, Spain, and French Polynesia. For her, diving has always been about that feeling of being underwater, where everything slows down and you can just be present.

Julien grew up around diving in France and Guadeloupe. His family were divers, and he took his first breath underwater when he was 13. Diving became a big part of his life and eventually led him to become an instructor.

Camille

Camille discovered scuba diving at 14, and it quickly became much more than a hobby. Her curiosity for the underwater world led her to pursue further certifications, completing her Divemaster training in 2021 and becoming a dive instructor in 2022.

Her passion for diving has always been closely connected to marine conservation, particularly the protection of sharks. Over the years, she has participated in conservation projects in Costa Rica and abroad, including reef mapping expeditions in the Cayman Islands and shark conservation expeditions to Isla del Coco with Misión Tiburón.

In Indonesia, she spent 1.5 years as a full time dive instructor in Nusa Lembongan, where she certified hundreds of divers while also leading the ecology department. She introduced ecology focused courses and used diving as a way to help divers better understand and respect the marine environment.

Her work has also taken her beyond teaching. In 2024, she worked as a dive photographer on the Great Barrier Reef, combining her passion for exploration with her love for documenting the underwater world.

For Camille, teaching diving is ultimately about sharing more than a certification. It is about creating awareness, confidence, curiosity, and a deeper connection with the ocean.

Julien

Diving has always been part of Julien's life. Coming from a family of dive instructors in France and Guadeloupe, he was introduced to the underwater world from an early age. At 13, he took his first breath underwater and quickly discovered a passion that would stay with him.

His journey eventually took him to Menorca, where he completed his Divemaster training and gained experience in the many sides of working in diving. From guiding and assisting divers to learning the importance of preparation, safety, and teamwork, these experiences shaped his approach to the profession.

Julien became a PADI Instructor in 2025, driven by a genuine passion for sharing knowledge. For him, teaching is about more than mastering skills. It is about helping people feel comfortable, confident, and curious in the water, while discovering the ocean at their own pace.

Why we started Salty Horizon

  • Personal.
  • Flexible.
  • Thoughtful.

After spending so much time diving and working in the industry,
we started talking about what we would do differently.

We didn't want to create another traditional dive center. We wanted something that felt more like us.

Something personal. Something flexible. Something where we could actually take the time to get to know the people we were diving with.

We don't think everyone needs the same dive, the same schedule, or the same pace. Some people want to see sharks. Some want to learn. Some are nervous and just want to feel comfortable in the water. And sometimes, people simply want to enjoy a beautiful day in the ocean without being rushed.

That's what Salty Horizon is about.

It's the kind of diving experience we would want to have ourselves.

And now we get to share it with people from all over the world, right here in Costa Rica.

Dive beyond the ordinary.
